Mr Jacob Anthony Mear
(PhD Student)


Jacob graduated from the University of Chester in November 2016, with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science. After securing some research funding, Jacob registered for a PhD via the University of Chester, and is working in collaboration with the North West and North Wales Urological Research Centre (NW2URC).

Jacob is currently undertaking research into the effect of shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) and flexible ureteroscopy (FURS), for the treatment of kidney stones, on various blood and urine markers. Primarily, the aim of his study is to identify those patients who may be at an increased risk of post-operative complications such as infection. 

Mr Abhishek Kharawatkar
(PhD Student)


Abhishek, originally from India, completed his BSc Biotechnology in 2012 from the University of Mumbai. Abhishek subsequently, graduated with an MSc in Molecular Medicine and Cancer Research in 2013, from Brunel University, London.


Abhishek has worked as a Research Associate at the Haffkines Institute of Testing, Training and Research, under the supervision of a Neurologist and Neuroscientist.

Abhishek has also previously worked at Meyer Organics Pvt. Ltd. in the Medical Services Department; as a Medical Adviser for HIV/AIDS and STI Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention in in Mumbai.

Abhishek is an enthusiastic teacher and has worked as a private tutor in Mumbai. Abhishek is currently pursuing a PhD degree at the University of Chester in collaboration with NW2URC.


For his PhD, Abhishek, will be investigating prostate cancer under the guidance of Dr Stephen Hughes and Mr Iqbal Shergill.
